THE ANNUAL VILLAGE FAIR WITH MARKETS AND THE RHODODENDRON FESTIVAL PARADE
OUR ANNUAL VILLAGE FAIR AND PARADE
Kookaburra Kindergarten has been associated with the Rhododendron Festival from the very beginning in 1952. Both Kookaburra and the Rhododendron Festival began in the same year. Each year parents choose a theme and there is great preparation and enthusiasm to provide the children with all the excitement of being on the float. The truck is usually donated of course and it is very much a community effort.
In the past there has always been a festival queen who was selected from those girls in the community who wanted to enter the competition to be queen. It was quite an honour.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to raise very much needed money for charity as each candidate worked hard to organize and hold events that would raise money for and awareness of the chosen charities.
This was another facet of the type of community engagement that Blackheath residents have always been well known for.
The day is also filled with other attractions such as market stalls, wood chopping, sausage sizzles and is very much enjoyed by residents and many, many tourists that visit as well.
Over the years The Rhododendron Festival Committee has also supported Kookaburra as well with donations and other support...very much a community affair!
